One man is dead and another in police custody following a shooting Sunday evening in Northside.
A Cincinnati Police officer was responding to a call for a breaking and entering issue around 6:15 p.m. when he heard gunfire while driving through the stoplight at Chase and Hamilton Avenue, said Lt. Lisa Davis. Within seconds the officer arrived to the victim, who was dead on the sidewalk at Cherry Street and Chase Avenue.
A man described to be in his 50s was standing over the victim with gun in hand, according to Davis. She said the officer exited the cruiser and had the suspect at gunpoint. He then surrendered without issue.
Seven people witnessed the shooting and Davis said they were taken to police headquarters to assist in the investigation.
Police have not determined if the shooting was related to the breaking and entering the officer was initially responding to.
The victims is described by police as a white man in his 40s, but they have yet to identify him.
