(RNN) - Comedian-actor Tracy Morgan is recovering from surgery on Sunday.
According to the Associated Press, Morgan will remain hospitalized for weeks and is suffering from a broken leg.
Morgan was involved in the six-car accident early Saturday in New Jersey. The AP reported he was in intensive care at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital following the accident.
A spokesman stated Saturday night that Morgan was receiving "excellent care."
A truck driver from Georgia has been charged with multiple automobile-related assault counts in the wreck that critically injured comedian and actor Tracy Morgan and killed another man.
Kevin Roper, 35, of Jonesboro, GA, was charged with one count of death by automobile and four counts of assault, according to CNN.
Sgt. Gregory Williams of the New Jersey State Police said James McNair, a member of Morgan's party, was killed at the scene and other passengers were in critical condition as well.
McNair, 62, of Peekskill, NY, was a comedian who went by the stage name of Jimmy Mack.
In addition to McNair and Morgan, three other passengers were injured, two of them critically.
According to Williams, Morgan was riding in a limousine bus that was in an accident involving two cars, two tractor-trailers and an SUV. The crash started when the driver of Walmart tractor-trailer swerved to avoid slow traffic and hopefully avoid a crash, but hit the back of the vehicle Morgan was riding in, according to the AP.
Walmart President Bill Simon said in a statement, "We're praying for the family and friends of the passenger who lost his life in the terrible accident in New Jersey. Our hearts go out to everyone involved and we hope those who were injured get the care that they need and make a full recovery. We are profoundly sorry that one of our trucks was involved, if it's determined that our truck caused the accident, Walmart will take full responsibility. We will do what's right for the victim and the survivors in the days and weeks ahead."
Morgan is best known for his role as a cast member on Saturday Night Live for eight seasons and his role on 30 Rock along side SNL alum Tina Fey and Alec Baldwin.
Morgan had performed a show in Dover, DE, on Friday night as a part of his comedy tour and was scheduled to perform Saturday night in Charlotte, NC, and Sunday in Cleveland, OH. According to Ticketmaster.com, Morgan's show Saturday has been canceled as well as one set for June 20 in Minneapolis, MN.
Morgan is also scheduled for six more performances later this month.
