The Blue Plum Festival kicked off Friday in Johnson City bringing thousands into downtown for a weekend long celebration.

Blue Plum marks it's 15th year this weekend having grown from attendance of just a few hundred in 1999 to thousands in 2014.

The downtown Blue Plum calls home has been growing along with it seeing a resurgence in new business and restoration of former landmarks.

Blue Plum spokesperson, Dianna Cantler, said what started with humble beginnings has become a force downtown.

"It definitely started out as two city blocks and now we cover eight city blocks," said Cantler.

Holy Taco Cantina owner, Jesse Scott, said the changes that have come during Blue Plum's history have made downtown the place to be again.

"Renovation, remodeling looks really good...johnson city has done really great doing that and hopefully we can just see continued growth," said Scott.
