They are known as Eagles, aviation heroes who have come to share their stories with students at the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base.
Friday, they signed their portraits that will hang at Maxwell, included a group that is made up of one of America's most decorated soldiers from the Vietnam War and a female pilot from WWII.
Each says they are honored to be recognized as an Eagle.
"It's probably been one of the highlights of my life truly, other than the flying," said says Col. Kenneth S. Collins, Sr. "The people here are so nice, the Southern hospitality," he added. "The men they have here, I'd be proud to serve with."
The portraits are made into a larger print. Copies are sold to raise money for the Gathering of the Eagles Foundation.
