CINCINNATI (FOX19) -

A Hollywood A-lister is in the Tri-State.

Academy Award winner Don Cheadle threw out the first pitch at Friday's Reds game, and he's also preparing to shoot a movie right here in the Queen City.

The movie is titled "Miles Ahead" and Cheadle says he's always been a big fan of jazz great Miles Davis and wanted to pay tribute through this movie.

Miles Davis was one of the best; an artist who helped sculpt the music industry and now Golden Globe winner Don Cheadle is hitting the big screen to help capture Davis' life.

"When Miles was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame about five years ago they asked his family if they were ever going to do a movie about his life and his nephew said yeah Don Cheadle is going to play him, which was news to me," said Cheadle told FOX19's Brett Hoffland.

Cheadle says Miles didn't like the word 'jazz', he considered what he played to be social music. For his directorial debut, he wanted to include the fans to share in the experience of making the film.

A crowd funding campaign has been launched, seeking to raise $325,000. The perks for supporting the film start with T-shirts or DVD's. But the bigger contributions include a round of golf with Cheadle.

"He was really about the people and doing things in a social mode and it makes perfect sense to use the social mediums and Indigo-go and Twitter and Facebook and all those things to try and rally support for the project," said Cheadle.

But why the Queen City? Cheadle says this is a period piece set in New York and you can't find period New York in Manhattan because of all the development. The architecture here mixed with good business made it an attractive destination.

"With what's happening with the incentives here, Los Angeles is actually lagging behind you guys and it's becoming a film friendly town which is great," said Cheadle.

Cheadle starred in movies including Hotel Rwanda, Crash, and the Oceans 11 series. He says his been all over the world, but enjoys Cincinnati.

"We're all over the city obviously looking for locations and people have been opening their arms to us. It's been great," said Cheadle.

Cheadle like Miles Davis, plays the trumpet.

Cheadle says they'll begin filming the first week of July through mid August. If you want to check out the campaign and get involved with Miles Ahead, visit https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/join-miles-ahead-a-don-cheadle-film
