BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

A trio of Haughton residents was arrested overnight Sunday after allegedly stealing copper, rims and tires from two Bossier City motels.

Police said Christopher Glenn Harper, 32, Tonya Marie Kinsey, 33, and Michael Paul Wertman, 33 were caught with two spools of welding leads, two wheel rims and tires as they were driving out of the Microtel Inn and Suites in the 2700 block of Village Lane.

An off-duty Bossier City police officer who was working security at the motel noticed them acting suspiciously around a welding truck that was parked in the lot. He stopped the suspects leaving the lot in an SUV, police said.

Police determined that one spool was taken from the truck at Microtel and the other was taken during a theft that happened earlier Sunday at a different place. The rims and tires also were stolen Sunday night from a vehicle parked at the Comfort Suites in the 7900 block of East Texas Street.

Police also found a small amount of marijuana inside the suspects' SUV.

An investigation linked the three suspects to at least six recent cases of theft of copper welding leads from welding trucks in Bossier City.

Kinsey's 9-month-old daughter was also in the SUV and was placed in the care of a relative, police said.

The suspects were booked into the Bossier City Jail on charges of theft, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled dangerous substance in the presence of a minor.

Police said Harper also was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant from Caddo Parish.
