Seven teenagers are facing theft charges after allegedly trying to steal bicycles from multiple Shreveport homes overnight.

"We believe that the seven were working in collusion, they were working together," said Shreveport police Sgt. Bill Goodin.

Police said they received multiple calls around midnight on Monday about a group of teenagers stealing bicycles and gas cans. They were apparently targeting homes in the 3800 blocks of Richmond and Dillingham Avenues.

"They've definitely been scoping the place out to know what it was chained with and how to break through it so quickly," said Joshua Amos, a resident of Richmond Street.

Officers who responded to the calls quickly located seven teenagers ranging in ages 14 to 17 years old, allegedly linked to the reported crimes.

All of the suspects were taken in for questioning and arrested on charges of burglary of an inhabited dwelling.

"I hate to do something to somebody who comes up on my property, but I will to protect myself," said Bruce Cotton.

Cotton's son's bicycle was snatched off of his porch. The bike was secured with the use of a bar lock, which attached it to the porch railing. The thieves apparently just pulled the bike until the railing came detached.

Goodin said other charges related to property damage could be filed at a later time. Most of the teens face some sort of theft charges.

Police recovered a new bicycle and a gas can from the suspects, police said. Those items were returned to the owners.

Cotton said he had not been given his son's bicycle.
