"Celebrating life, liberty, and family" is the motto for Cincinnati's 2014 Pride Festival and hundreds gathered downtown Saturday to affirm the message. A parade and celebration culminated an entire week of Pride events in the Queen City.
Pride festivals are worldwide events that celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender culture and pride. Representatives said Cincinnati's first Pride event in 1973 only had 12 participants. They said more than 50,000 attended this year.
P&G along with Kroger were the presenting sponsors of Cincinnati's 41st Pride Parade where 120 local businesses and residents marched downtown. A festival at Sawyer Point awaited the end of the parade route with live entertainment and a fun zone for families.
A commitment and recommitment ceremony also took place Saturday night. Pride representatives said it was an opportunity for couples to show their love to each other and to the world.
