Wakeboarders make waves on Red River in Shreveport

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

College wakeboarding is back and making a splash on the Red River for the second year in a row.

The weather looks like its going to cooperate this year.

"Shreveport was awesome and a lot of the athletes had a lot of fun off the water," said John Zdeblic, USA Wakeboarding President. "The conditions were challenging but we had faith that the weather would be good this year. You are riding between two railroad bridges and you've got the city on either side so people to come out and watch."

The host of the competition will be 15-year-pro-rider Brad Smeele. He is anticipating that this year will be better than the last.

"We are going to see some great tricks out on the water I'm looking forward to getting out and doing a couple of demos myself and being apart of the action," Smeele said.

Trevor Duncan will be riding for the Louisiana Monroe Wakeboarding team and is from Haughton Louisiana. This gives his family a chance to see him in action.

"Getting to ride out here with two Ronix pro-riders is good because I look up to them," said Trevor Duncan.

Trevor Duncan will be riding for the University of Louisiana at Monroe wakeboarding team and is from Haughton. This gives his family a chance to see him in action.

"My family's here. They are going to come watch me and support me," Duncan said. "You know my friends are going to be down here. It's good to know that I'll be able to show them what I do.

"This is huge for wakeboarding especially on the collegiate scene where it's not that big and teams are starting to pop up at every school. It's really promoting the sport and really getting it out there."

There will be 80 to 100 competitors in all this year.
