DIXIE INN, LA (KSLA) -

Dixie Inn police have confirmed that the couple who appeared to have "dined and dashed" from a popular local eatery earlier this month returned to the restaurant and paid the tab.

Surveillance video was released this week by police in hopes of identifying the man and woman, who reportedly left The Crawfish Hole #2 on May 2 to get cash at a nearby ATM to pay the bill because the restaurant's credit card system was down. Management contacted police after the couple never returned.

According manager Lauren Carnahan, the man came back to the restaurant and settled up on the $42 tab on Thursday, not long after the story with an image of the couple was posted on the KSLA News 12 Facebook page. Carnahan says the man offered a generous tip, as well, and explained that they had sent the money in the mail to the restaurant. It's not known what happened to that payment.

The story caused an uproar, but as much not over the apparent dine and dash as it was over the restaurant's policy requiring servers to cover the cost of unpaid tabs. As KSLA News 12 has since clarified, the policy is quite common in the industry, and legal as long as it doesn't put the server's paycheck under minimum wage.

Police Chief Jim Edwards says they are still waiting to talk to the couple, "so we can see where we're going to go next."
