Bicyclist hit by car, TTPD investigating

TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

Texarkana, Texas police are investigating an incident where a man was struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle Friday night.
 
According to the preliminary investigation, they say 55-year-old Michael Brimer of Texarkana, Texas, was riding his bicycle southbound on South Lake Drive on the shoulder of the roadway about 7:30 p.m.  
Traffic Sergeant Mike Harris said that as Brimer approached the intersection with Leopard Drive, he made an abrupt left turn to cross South Lake Drive and into the path of a 2005 Honda Accord, driven by April Higgs, 35, of Texarkana, Texas.
 
Brimer was transported to CHRISTUS Saint Michaels Hospital with serious injuries.  He suffered from head trauma, but the injuries are not believed to be life threatening. Neither Higgs nor her passenger were injured.
 
No citations have been issued.  
 
The traffic unit continues to investigate. Anyone who may have witnessed the accident and have not already spoken to investigators are asked to call Sgt. Harris at 903-798-3016.
