MERAUX, LA (WVUE) -

Two men are accused of using a quick-cash scheme at a convenience store and getting away with several hundred dollars in the process.

The men went into a Meraux store on the night of May 13. A store surveillance camera showed one of the men trying to distract the cashier while the other man made a small purchase at another register using a $100 bill, according to St. Bernard Parish Sheriff James Pohlmann.

After giving the money to the cashier, the man began to confuse the cashier by asking for it back and starting over. After several transactions, the man walked away with several hundred dollars of store money, the sheriff said.

Deputies are trying to determine the identities of the men. They were in a late model Chevrolet Silverado pick-up truck with an extended body and bed cover. The color of the truck is either light silver, tan or champagne.

The sheriff is warning businesses to be aware of anyone trying to use quick changes of money at the register. He says employees should consider a policy of not accepting large bills for small purchases.

Anyone with information on the identities of the men should call the St. Bernard Sheriff's Office at 504-271-2501.
