ROLLA, MO -

Southern Arkansas freshman standout Shelby Miller has been named to the Daktronics All-America Honorable Mention Team as a utility-pitcher as it was announced by Daktronics on Wednesday afternoon.

Miller, a native of Brazoria, Texas, now becomes the first player in SAU softball history to earn All-America plaudits.

The national honor for Miller comes as a result of her tremendous freshman campaign for the Lady Muleriders in which she was an impact player, both at the plate and in the circle.

As a hitter, Miller, the 2014 GAC Freshman of the Year and All-GAC First-Team Outfielder, set five team single-season records as she led the team in batting average (.413 | 88-for-213), hits (88), at-bats (213), runs scored (55), and total bases (149).

In the circle, Miller, an All-GAC Honorable Mention Pitcher, appeared in 47 games, recording a 3.40 ERA with 144 strikeouts in 203.2 innings pitched. Miller's seven saves on the season and 20 games finished in relief were SAU single-season records.

During the course of the year, Miller was named the Great American Conference Pitcher and Player of the Week, making her the first Lady Mulerider to do so in the same season. Additionally, Miller brought home NFCA National Player of the Week honors in early April.

The All-America teams are sponsored by Daktronics, Inc., an acknowledged world leader in scoring, timing and programmable display systems for virtually every sport at every level of competition. The teams are voted on by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

This is the eighth season in which Daktronics, Inc. has sponsored the All-America teams for softball.
