NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

Orleans Sheriff Marlin Gusman wants more time before he discusses the state of Orleans Parish Prison with council members.

The sheriff sent a letter to council member Susan Guidry May 21 saying he would like to defer an appearance before the council to update council members on his effort to comply with a consent decree.

He said he needs more time to formulate ideas that can be turned into smart proposals.

Gusman included a few updates in his letter to Guidry. They include his estimate that construction of OPP's new intake and housing facility will be completed by September or October for 2014.
