NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

A 6-year-old girl has died after a wreck involving an overturned vehicle.

The crash happened Monday shortly after noon on the westbound side of Interstate 10 at the Morrison Road exit.

The crash caused all westbound lanes of I-10 to be shut down.

New Orleans police say a 36-year-old woman was driving down the interstate in a Chevrolet Suburban when she lost control of the SUV, causing the vehicle to flip several times. The 6-year-old was ejected from the vehicle. She has been identified as Jawana White of New Orleans. White died on the way to the hospital.

The Suburban was also carrying three other girls, ages 6, 9 and 10.

The driver was taken to the hospital where she is in stable condition. The three girls were also taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Charges against the woman are pending, according to police.

It is unclear who, if anyone, was wearing a seatbelt. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
