SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) -

A homeless man was injured when the abandoned house he was staying in caught on fire.

St. Tammany Fire District 1 was called to the house at the corner of Oak Dr. and Gum Dr. in Slidell on Saturday just after midnight. When they arrived, the 1300 square foot house was full engulfed in flames.

It took firefighters about 18 minutes to get the fire under control.

The 53-year-old homeless man was taken to an area hospital. There is no word on his condition.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
