SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A fund has been set up for donations to the family of a young Shreveport boy who was tragically killed last week.

The Brenden Houston Memorial account has been established at Capital One Bank. Donations can be made at any of the bank's locations.

Police say the 6-year-old was critically injured just after getting off of bus #278 in Shreveport's North Highland's neighborhood just before 4 p.m. May 15. He was rushed to University Health Shreveport, where he died.

SPD Cpl. Marcus Hines says that preliminary information and evidence recovered at the scene suggests that Houston was struck by the school bus driven by 59-year-old Debra Kay Stevens of Hosston as she made a turn onto Winter Garden Drive from Addison Avenue.

According to Hines, it is believed Houston got off the bus along with a group of other children, but may have veered out Stevens' sight. Stevens may have thought the child was clear of the bus before she began to drive away.

Brenden Houston was a student at Herndon Magnet.

A memorial service for Brenden Houston will be held Monday at 4 p.m. at Trinity Heights Baptist Church, 3820 Old Mooringsport Road.
