SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A man who led police on a brief chase Thursday afternoon in Shreveport before climbing on to a roof of a Cedar Grove home has come down safely, police say.

It all started earlier in the evening, police say, when officers were dispatched to a scene at Wyngate Circle where a man was allegedly causing problems. Once police arrived, the man took off in a vehicle.

Police pursued him and he abandoned his vehicle at E. 79th Street, then took off on foot, said Cpl. Marcus Hines. Finally, he climbed on top of a home in the 8000 block of Henderson, where he stayed for about 3 hours.

Crisis negotiators taled to the man, trying to coax him down. A K-9 officer was also on the scene, Hines said, adding that it appeared the man either had a mental breakdown or was under the influence.

During the talks, the man appeared to be animated, waving his arms around and threatening to harm himself. He asked for a drink and cigarettes, police said.

After coming down on his own, the man was taken to University Health Shreveport to be evaluated. Police said he will probably face several charges, but exactly which charges has not yet been determined.

Officers on the scene also said two police officers involved rolled a vehicle into a ditch during the incident. One of them was taken to the hospital with elbow injuries. The other appears to be OK.
