The Food and Drug Administration is now taking a close look at electronic cigarettes. It's about time.
E-cigs, as they're called, are now a $2 billion industry. They are a battery powered device which simulate tobacco smoking. Some contain nicotine. They are marketed as cigarette alternatives. But the consumer doesn't really know what's in these products. It's past time to find out.
Manufacturers say they are a substitute for real cigarettes. Many in the medical community say they could lead to more cigarette smoking especially among the young.
That's why E-cigs, like tobacco cigarettes, should be banned for minors and the rest of us need to know of any health risks. Let me know what you think.
