SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Students from St. Mark's Elementary School helped plant peppers, onions and cilantro Wednesday at Dittle's Highland Community Garden.

Work at the garden began earlier this year with flower bed prepping. Planting season is in full swing now and the St. Mark's children are not the first students to get some hands-on learning out there.

Science teacher Kathy Williamson said giving students the chance to find out more about where their food comes from is a great opportunity.

Garden organizers want folks from across the city to help create the garden, which is located in the city's Highland Neighborhood at the corner of Southern Avenue and Olive Street.

You can head out anytime Friday or Saturday. And don't forget your shovels!
