Chapman dodges comebacker, struggles to get outs

Aroldis Chapman dodged a comebacker pitching Tuesday in Louisville and then struggled to get outs.

Chapman, pitching for the Triple A Louisville Bats for the first time in his recovery, failed to make it out of the first inning. He allowed six base runners, five earned runs and only recorded two outs. Chapman was pulled after throwing 32 pitches.

The first batter of the game hit a soft line drive that sailed over Chapman's head on the mound. Chapman hasn't pitched in a big league game this season after he was hit by a line drive in spring training.

"He didn't have any flash backs or any thoughts about it," said a translator for Aroldis Chapman. "It did go over his head, but it didn't hit him. He didn't have any ill thoughts about it."

Chapman was scheduled to pitch again Wednesday before rejoining the Reds this weekend, but after the rough outing and the high number of pitches, Chapman said he's unsure if the Reds will change the plan.

Chapman has now pitched three minor league games in his comeback, two for Dayton and one for Louisville. The Reds announced they expect him to return to the Reds this Friday.
