NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

The bids packages left New Orleans on Tuesday afternoon. By Wednesday, they will be in the hands of NFL owners across the country.

The boxes contain New Orleans' complete proposal, outlining why it should host Super Bowl LII.

The event would fall during the city's tricentennial year, 2018, and tourism officials say there's no better way to kick off a year of celebrations.

New Orleans is up against Minneapolis, MN, which will have a new stadium by that time, and Indianapolis, which hosted a successful Super Bowl in 2012.

But, along with mild winters, New Orleans has a great track record when it comes to bidding for Super Bowls.

"The process has changed drastically year after year after year," says Sam Joffray of GNO Sports Foundation. "It's grown more and more competitive each year, the process changes each year. We've hosted it ten times and we've been up for consideration ten times so depending on the level of competitiveness over the years, it's a perfect track record for bidding and hosting."

The NFL owners will vote on the host city at their meeting in Atlanta May 20th.

GNO Sports Foundation also completed bids this week to host the Men's and Women's Final Fours between 2017 and 2020.
