SLIDELL, LA (WVUE) -

A Slidell man is behind bars once again after he rewired his ignition, dismantled his interlock device, and drove his vehicle while intoxicated, according to the Slidell Police Department.

Police say around 2 a.m. Saturday, a Slidell Police officer was driving on Pontchartrain Drive when a Volkswagen Jetta pulled out in front of him, causing a near crash with the officer.

The officer pulled over the vehicle and observed the driver, 41-year-old Larry Paul, to be intoxicated. Paul had a blood alcohol content of .152g%, which is almost twice the legal limit of .08g%.

Police say Paul had been arrested once in 2011 and once in 2012 for D.W.I.

Part of his requirements after his arrests was to have a mandated interlock device installed on his vehicle.  The device required Paul to blow into a tube prior to starting his car to ensure there is no alcohol his system.

After taking a closer look, officers discovered that Paul somehow dismantled the interlock device and rewired his ignition.

Paul was placed under arrest and charged with felony Third Offense D.W.I., Failure to Yield While Turning Left, Tampering with an Interlock Device, and No Insurance.
