Police search for vehicle involved in Algiers hit and run

The New Orleans Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating a vehicle that was involved in a hit and run. The incident occurred Friday in the early morning hours near the intersection of Socrates Street and Shirley Drive in Algiers.

According to police, the 43-year-old victim was standing near the opened drivers-side door of his parked pickup truck when he and the truck were struck by a gray vehicle, possibly a small four-door SUV. The victim was dragged nearly 100 feet after being hit. The man suffered severe injuries to his head, torso and limbs. The gray vehicle fled the scene after the incident.

The impact caused the license plate to fall off of the gray vehicle. The Texas license plate reads, SCH481 and police believe that the vehicle still has its rear license plate. Police believe that the gray car has damage to the front passenger side and the passenger-side front fender.

If you have any information that could help police locate this vehicle or its driver, you are asked to call Crimestoppers at 504-822-1111.
