OROGRANDE, N.M. - One soldier died and three were injured Saturday night when a military helicopter from Fort Bragg crashed during a training mission near Orogrande, N.M., the military confirmed Monday.

Killed in the crash was Sgt. Dwight Burn, according to a written statement from the 82nd Airborne Division's Public Affairs Office. The statement did not identify the three troopers who were hurt.

Burn was inside the CH-47 Chinook that crashed just after 8 p.m. after leaving on a training exercise from Fort Bliss, Texas. Burn and the three other crew members were part of the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade.

Burn, 27, was from Barstow, California. The other three soldiers are in stable condition, and two are expected to be released from the hospital within 24 hours according to the statement.

Burn graduated from high school in 2005 and enlisted in the Army on May 11, 2010. He had served in Afghanistan.

Fort Bliss spokesman Lt. Colonel Lee Peters said the crew and aircraft are with the 82nd Airborne Division stationed out of Fort Bragg.

The Army often sends troops to Fort Bliss for high-altitude, mountain training, which is similar to Afghanistan.
The U.S. Army Combat Readiness/Safety Center (USACRC) has deployed a three-person Centralized Accident Investigation team to lead an investigation into the accident. The team may determine a cause for the crash and make recommendations to prevent future accidents, but that information will not be released the statement said.
