A two-alarm fire damaged several homes in the Seventh Ward Thursday.
fire broke out just before 2:30 p.m. in the 1800 block of Duels Street. Firefighters
arrived to find flames shooting through the roof of a single-story, wood-framed
house, with multi-unit buildings on either side also damaged.
NOFD units carrying 45 firefighters responded, and the blaze was under control
at 3:15 p.m. No one was injured. Firefighters rescued two dogs from one of the
house where the fire started had no utilities and had been abandoned and
unoccupied since Hurricane Katrina.
