HAUGHTON, LA (KSLA) -

The Town of Haughton is gearing up for one of the biggest events, the town has ever hosted.

Workers spent the day Wednesday setting up a stage at Haughton High School's football field for " Adventure Weekend".

It's a 4-day faith based family friendly event open to the entire community spanning May 1-May 4. It will feature activities for all ages including national speakers, an Outdoor Family Fest, Women's Night Out, Xtreme Student Night and Community Celebration Rally.

It's taken local churches and business nearly a year to put on the event.

"Often times people who live in smaller communities and are outside metropolitan areas, don't get a chance to be a part of something like this. The people who live here usually have to travel an hour or several hours," said Jay Lowder, event organizer and speaker. Lowder travels around the country coordinating with different communities to put on the 'Adventure Weekend' events. Lowder says it is a great way to bring communities together for faith based activities.

"So it makes it great when a town of Haughton, says ‘we want to do something big, we want to do something for our community,' To give everyone an opportunity to be involved, it just makes it really unique and special," said Lowder.

A Bossier Parish Sheriff's Department Spokesman says deputies and volunteers called "Posse Members" will be assisting the Town of Haughton Police Department with directing traffic for the event.
