COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

NFL Draft prospects Victor Hampton and Kelcy Quarles have been cleared of any wrongdoing stemming from an incident at a New York City nightclub April 11.

Police said Hampton, Quarles, and former defensive end Chaz Sutton were visiting the Greenhouse nightclub around 3 a.m. when the promoter claimed he was struck in the face with a hookah pipe by three men in the VIP room.

Hampton's attorney Lowell E. Bernstein said Victor did not do anything wrong and was acting in self-defense.

"He cooperated with law enforcement and remained silent publicly, which was difficult, but he is glad that the truth of the matter is now known," Bernstein told WIS. "He is focused on the NFL draft and his career and is appreciative of the support he has received."

A spokesman with the New York City Police Department said Wednesday Quarles is also not being charged.

Hampton, Quarles, Sutton and several other Gamecocks were in New York for a magazine shoot with ESPN.

Quarles and Hampton declared for the 2014 NFL Draft after the Gamecocks most recent season where the team went 11-2.

Hampton recently sat down for an interview and said he was ready to move on from his checkered past where he developed a reputation as a troublemaker.

"It's kind of rough because people put me on a reputation or labeled me at a young age before I really even knew exactly what was going on," Hampton said in that interview.
