A Terrytown man was arrested after agents seized 16 pounds of synthetic marijuana from his car and later from a storage facility where the drug was being kept, according to the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office.

In February, the Plaquemines Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division learned that an Arabic male, identified as Jehad Saleh, 27, of Whitney Avenue, was allegedly selling synthetic marijuana in Plaquemines Parish.

Additionally, narcotics agents learned that Saleh was allegedly distributing the drugs to buyers in Gretna, Harvey and Terrytown.

During their investigation, officers made undercover purchases of synthetic marijuana from Saleh and also learned that he was storing the drugs at a storage unit in the 2300 block of Belle Chasse Highway in Terrytown.

During a surveillance operation on Monday, saw Saleh briefly stop at the storage unit and then followed him to Plaquemines Parish. Shortly after 5 p.m., agents conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle Saleh was driving at Highway 23 and Stockfleth Drive in Belle Chasse. During the stop, 49 individually sealed bags of synthetic marijuana were recovered from the back seat of the vehicle, according to the sheriff's office.

Agents obtained search warrants for Saleh's storage unit and home, where they said they found more synthetic marijuana at $1,400 in cash. The street value of the seized narcotics is estimated at $40,160.

Saleh is jailed in Belle Chasse on charges of possession with intent to distribute illegal drugs. Bond was set at $750,000. He is being processed to be transferred to Orleans Parish Prison.
