NSU twins jump their way to success in track & field

It was a rivalry that began in the womb for Aaron and Emmanuel Williams. The identical twins compete together on the Northwestern State track and field team.

"They compete with each other at everything, in practice drills, competition especially," said Wes Miller, NSU's jumpers coach. "They are very good at motivating each other."

That motivation has been working. Emmanuel set the tone by shocking the world when he placed fourth at nationals and received All-American status.

Brother Aaron remembers that moment well too.

"He (Emmanuel) called me and he told me and sent me pictures. Deep inside I was feeling some type of way because when one twin does good the whole world is going to look at the other twin."

That next night Aaron responded with a personal record at McNeese in the triple jump with a jump of 51-4 1/4. At the time that was fourth in the country. Last week he was named the Southland Conference Athlete of the Week.

"They're the first one in the training room in the morning and they watch what they eat and they go to sleep when they're supposed to and it's really paying off," said Miller.

The big payoff would be the Olympics which is a dream for both of these brothers.
