Friends of shooting victim gather to remember man killed in West Shreveport
SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -
A vigil was held for a man gunned down early Sunday morning during a shooting in West Shreveport.
Friends gathered to remember Demonta Wills, 19 of Bossier City, who was shot just after 3:30 a.m. at the corner of Hasset Avenue and Merwin Street.
Shreveport police have named Edward Bessard, 23 of Shreveport as a suspect in the case.
During the fray, Wills was shot in the upper body while he was sitting in the back seat of a moving car. He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Wills was one of at least three occupants of a white Dodge Charger that was allegedly involved in a gunfire exchange with another group from a separate vehicle. The second vehicle fled the scene.
Police found Bessard just before 4:30 a.m. at a home in the 2300 block of Audrey Lane, after reports of a shooting there. He had a gunshot wound in his mid-section and was taken to University Health Shreveport with what police said are serious injuries.
Bessard may have been injured during the earlier shooting, police said.
The two other passengers in the Charger were taken to Shreveport Police headquarters for questioning.
