GRAMBLING, LA (KSLA/KNOE) -

Grambling State University student Alexandria Shelton, 21, was found dead over the weekend in a ditch at a park in Lafayette.

Students gathered on GSU's campus to remember the young woman's life.

According to the coroner's report, Shelton's death has been ruled accidental. She was found, drowned, and in a ditch.

"We really need it because to our family it's still a dream until after Tuesday it's still a dream," said Shelton's older brother Justin.

Shelton's family spoke to students at GSU, and other students also shared memories of the young woman lost.

"In anything that I did she didn't accept you half doing it or anything like that Alex would want all of us to graduate she would want all of us to make it," said a Grambling student.

Shelton was scheduled to graduate on May 9. Grambling State University President Frank Pogue hopes to present the diploma to her family at graduation.
