BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -

The man believed to have stolen a $75,000 car from a Bossier City dealership last week has been arrested in Texas.

According to Bossier City police, detectives with BCPD's Property Crimes Unit got an arrest warrant Tuesday for 37-year-old Mark Owen Burkett of Shreveport on a charge of felony theft for stealing a 2014 Audi A7 last Friday after taking it on a test drive from Moffitt Audi in the 1900 Old Minden Road.

Burkett was arrested in Baytown, Texas late Tuesday night after police there stopped the vehicle he was driving for a traffic violation.

Bossier City spokesman Mark Natale says detectives developed Burkett as the suspect in the case based on information and evidence obtained over the course of their investigation. Bond on that warrant is set at $100,000.

Burkett is charged with stealing the car after he and another person allegedly drove to the dealership in a black Mercedes CLS 550 that was later determined to have been stolen from a Shreveport car dealership. The other person drove away in the Mercedes when Burkett left the dealership in the stolen Audi. The Audi was recovered this week in Panola County, Texas and has since been returned to the dealership.

There is no word on whether the Mercedes has been recovered.

As of Wednesday afternoon, Burkett remained jailed in Baytown, Texas and also faces unrelated charges in Houston, Texas which could delay efforts to extradite him to Bossier City.
