Sam's Club announces Bossier City opening date

Sam's Club has announced an official opening date for its new club in Bossier City this summer.

The membership-only retail warehouse club will open at 2861 Beene Boulevard on Thursday, August 14.

A hiring and membership center opened on April 4 at the Louisiana Boardwalk. Management plans to hire about 160 associates to fill part-time and full-time positions at the store.

Available spots include cake decorators, tire technicians, overnight stockers and others. Some supervisory spots are also open.

The hiring and membership center will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday for applicants. The center will be at building E, Suite E 350-352. That's on the second floor of the Louisiana Boardwalk building. Residents and businesses can also sign up for club memberships.

Also, through the company's Veterans Welcome Home Commitment, Sam's Club will offer employment to any qualified veteran who has been honorably discharged within the past year.

The new club will officially open following an 8 a.m. ceremony on August 14. It will be the 641st Sam's Club in the U.S. and Puerto Rico, and the 15th Sam's Club in Louisiana. Sam's Club says they currently employ more than 2,100 associates in the state.

John Hamm, the manager of the new Sam's Club, said he has already hired 25 new associates and is engaging with several local organizations.

"Bossier City has welcomed Sam's Club with open arms, and we are looking forward to providing a unique shopping experience for the people in this area," Hamm said in a statement released by the company Wednesday. "We are pleased to offer our new members a special value when they purchase a membership leading up to our grand opening."

Sam's Club, a division of Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. (NYSE: WMT), is the nation's eighth largest retailer.
