An official with the state Fire Marshal's Office told KPLC they are investigating an incident that happened Friday night at the Louisiana Railroad Days Festival in DeQuincy.

Deputy Chief Brant Thompson said a 12-year-old girl was hit by a screw while she was waiting in line for a carnival ride.

The quarter-inch screw, which holds scenery parts on a ride known as Wipeout, became dislodged and hit the girl in the back of the head.

The girl was transported to a local hospital with a 1 1/2-inch laceration to the back of her head. She was held for a few hours for observation before being released.

The ride, manufactured in 1995 by Chance Manufacturing, is owned by Arkansas-based Miller Spectacular.

Thompson said there are no past bulletins or alert history of this issue happening with this ride.

Since the incident, the Fire Marshal's Office has placed an order of secession so that the ride can no longer operate in the state.

Thompson said his office will continue its investigation and hand it over to the National Association of Amusement Ride Safety Officials to determine if a bulletin will be issued and whether the ride can be registered in the state again.
