A $50,000 prize could all be yours if you have what it takes to develop the next bug startup in the ArkLaTex.
You may have heard of the Louisiana Film Prize which brings filmmakers to the Shreveport-Bossier area to compete. But now, organizers have come up with a similar concept called the Louisiana Startup Prize. This competition targets those of you who want to be entrepreneurs.
Organizers say the competition will benefit the ArkLaTex as well as the winner. "It's meant to bring the economic development, it's meant to create that entrepreneurial environment, but it's also mean to incubate talent. It's meant to connect that talent with investors who want to invest in those ideas. We're trying to build an environment of entrepreneurial excitement here," says Louisiana Startup Prize executive director Gregory Kallenburg. "We really want everyone to come be a part of this and learn how to be better business people and grow their business through us. For us, whether you're the candy maker in your kitchen or the app developer in the big tower, we want you to be there because again we're trying to connect you not only with knowledge, but we want to connect you with investment dollars."
Here's how the competition will work:
Whether you're a veteran or a newbie, all entrepreneurs are required to attend two qualifying events to be eligible for the $50,000 grand prize. The weekend-long qualifying events take place on June 6th and July 18th at Cohab. Entrepreneurs will get to develop their ideas with the help of experts and mentors. Then the exclusive Louisiana Startup Prize weekend begins September 18th. That's when investors will choose the grand prize winner.
You can get a feel for what the competition is all about Wednesday, April 16th at the kick-off party. It begins at 6 p.m. at Cohab underneath the Red River bridge in downtown Shreveport.
