Shreveport-Bossier Mavs win ABA Finals

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

In just their first year in Shreveport-Bossier, the Mavericks ABA team won the 2014 ABA Finals after beating the Jacksonville Giants, 105-103.

The Mavs fell behind 15-0 early in the first quarter but battled back to just a slim three point deficit going into the locker room.

The crowd watched the Mavs grab the lead in the fourth quarter band battle with the Giants until the final seconds before holding on to win by two.

Nearly 2,000 people showed up to watch the Mavs win the ABA title and remain undefeated on the season.

"I said we've just got to find a home and the town came out and supported us," said Jerry Nelson, owner of the Shreveport-Bossier Mavericks. "I'm so glad we could bring the gold ball. Now everybody in town can say this hillbilly from Texas is not full of manure anymore. He did what he said he would do."
