A new company is offering the chance to learn the history and culture of Cincinnati while getting a running workout at the same time.
Cincinnati Running Tours offers up to seven weekly guided tours of downtown, the Ohio riverfront, Over-the-Rhine, Mount Adams and Eden Park and the Northern Kentucky riverfront areas.
According to Chief Running Officer Scott Ehrnschwender, running tours are popular with business travelers and tourists throughout many U.S. and European cities, giving visitors the chance to explore the city with an experienced guide while getting a workout.
The 3 mile tours around Downtown, The Banks and OTR are designed for all running skill levels, including the novice who just wants some exercise and to explore the Cincinnati sights. There is also a tour catered toward the more seasoned runners, which does a 6 mile route around Downtown, OTR, Eden Park and Mount Adams.
"The tours are designed for out-of-town tourists who want to explore the city and 'get that run in' as well as Tri-State locals who want to rediscover the sights of their great city," said Ehrnschwender.
As a Cincinnati native and Cincinnati Museum Center Heritage Program volunteer, the chief running officer said there is a growing niche for running tours in large to medium size cities. Specifically in Cincinnati, he believes there is a growing appeal to be part of the revitalized downtown urban core.
"Much of this appeal is based upon the rich history of Cincinnati and its cultural traditions, including beer, pigs, and steamboats, all of which are discussed on the tours," he added.
The 3 mile tour is $30 per person and the 6 mile tour is $45 per person.
Group tours run Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday throughout the year. Reservations are required and can be made at www.CincinnatiRunningTours.com.
