Police charge 1 in fatal Fayetteville shooting Sunday night

One man died Sunday in Fayetteville after being shot, pulled from his car and left in the road, authorities said.

At approximately 8 p.m., Fayetteville police officers responded to the intersection of Lamon Street near Ramsey Street in reference to the shooting.

The victim was found lying in the road with a gunshot wound on Lamon Street.

The victim was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The victim has been identified as David Washington, 37, of Mobile, AL.

At approximately10 p.m., a sergeant with the Fayetteville Police Department saw a vehicle matching the description of the victim’s vehicle in the parking lot of the Regency Inn at 521 Ramsey St.

The sergeant attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver fled and led authorities in a brief chase before ending at a mobile home park on Cattail Circle.

Datorius Lane McLymore, 21, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and felony spedding to elude officers.

McLymore remains at the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond.

Police said Washington had been in Fayetteville for approximately three weeks and was employed by a company in periodical sales.
