Murder suspect surrenders in Shreveport's 8th homicide case

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

An accused killer is locked-up, charged with murder in a fatal shooting this weekend. The case marks the 8th homicide of the year in the city of Shreveport.

On Saturday night, April 12, police released a short statement announcing the arrest of 18-year old Derrick J. Thomas of Shreveport. Police say Thomas turned himself in about 7:00 p.m.. He faces a charge of second degree murder.

It all began at 9:00 p.m. Friday night, April 11, at the Villa Marquis Apartment complex. That's at the intersection of Valley View Drive and Jewella Avenue in Shreveport.

Shreveport Police say Thomas had been in an earlier dispute with Tyrone Youngblood. Police say, witnesses told them that a fight broke out between the two, which led to gunfire.

Youngblood was found with several gunshot wounds to the upper body. Medics rushed him to University Health. But he did not survive.
