SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

City leaders got together Friday to kick off an initiative to help keep Louisiana beautiful.

This weekend leaders will join "Shreveport Green" and "Keep Bossier Beautiful" to host the first "Leaders Against Litter" campaign.

"It cost us when other people come into this community to come here and invest and see that it is a place that does not take sufficient pride in how we look and appear as a city, when they see the level of trash and debris that we just simply throw out the windows," said Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover.

More than 600 leaders across the state are scheduled to speak up, pick up and pledge their support during the "litter-thon."

A $1,500 grant has been awarded to each local event.
