TEXARKANA, AR (KSLA) -

One of the Texarkana, AR police force's finest has given his final tail wag and headed to the great beyond.

Zorg, a German shepherd, K-9 dog passed away Sunday from natural causes. He was 10 years old.

The whiskered weapon had been assigned as a patrol to Officer Jeff Savage. He was used while tracking suspects, clearing buildings and conducting article searches.

Zorg was also involved in narcotics detection, including many drug recoveries, according to a statement made by police Wednesday. In one bust, Zorg and Savage recovered $220,000 worth of marijuana.

He retired from the police force in September 2012 due to medical issues. He continued to live with Savage and his family until his passing.

"Zorg held a notable career and proved himself not only a valuable asset to the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department, but also as a trusted companion to his handler. Zorg will be greatly missed," said Officer Kristi Mitchell in a statement.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. April 7 at East Memorial Gardens. The event will take place near the front of the gardens in an area set aside for police K-9s. The ceremony is open to the public.
