Fallen power line sparks fire at 2 Highland neighborhood homes

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Shreveport firefighters are keeping an eye on two houses that caught fire when a power line fell in the Highland neighborhood Wednesday morning.

Firefighters say around 7 a.m. the line pulled away from one of the houses in the 8300 block of Boulevard Street near Line Avenue, disconnecting the ground wire. That caused electricity to "backfeed into the home and the home across the street.

Both houses had minor damage. Insulation at the first home, which was occupied, burned in the fire. No one was injured.

The vacant house directly across the street had minor fire and water damage.

SWEPCO has turned off the power on that street and is working to fix those fallen lines.
