A Shreveport man has been charged in connection with a wreck that seriously injured the driver of a salt water truck in DeSoto Parish crash late Saturday night.
Louisiana State Police Troop G Officer Brett Davis says it happened on Hwy. 84 around 8 p.m.
Highway 84 was shut down between Mansfield and I-49 for about five hours while crews worked to clear the wreckage after a salt water tractor trailer rolled over, blocking both lanes.
The driver of the tractor trailer, 56-year-old Arnold Fitzgerald of Tenaha, TX, was airlifted to University Health Shreveport with severe head injuries.
A pickup truck being driven by 54-year-old Joseph Hendrix pulled out of a private driveway and into the path of the tractor trailer, colliding with it. Both men were wearing seatbelts.
Trooper Davis says it appears that impairment may have been a factor in the crash.
Hendrix was arrested and booked into the DeSoto Parish Jail on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, vehicular negligent driving and failure to yield from a private drive.
