TEXARKANA, TX (KSLA) -

Closing arguments begin Monday in the trial of the man accused of fatally injuring a Texarkana police officer by hitting him with his SUV.

Justin Sanders, 21, is charged in the hit and run death of Texarkana Police Officer William Sprague, 30,  while Sprague was responding to a disturbance at a city park in June of 2013.

Police say Sanders was trying to get away in his car, and hit officer Sprague, injuring him. Sprague later died of his injuries.

Jury deliberations are expected to get underway following closing arguments Monday in Rockwell, Texas, outside of Dallas.

Sanders is charged with aggravated assault on a public servant.
