Bill proposed to end frivolous industry lawsuits

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Governor Bobby Jindal announced his support today for legislation he believes will put an end to frivolous lawsuits involving industry.

Senator Robert Adley authored a bill that calls for more fair and responsive guidelines for lawyers to follow when they file claims from landowners against oil and gas companies.  The purpose is to encourage operators to admit when they are negligent, specify what types of damages can be collected, and clearly define what is considered contamination.

Jindal says legacy lawsuits discourage from moving to the state and only serve to make lawyers rich.
