KSLA News 12 Editorial: March 27th-Viewer Comments: 911 Abuse

Reaction this week to my recent editorial about people who abuse the 9-1-1 emergency system. I said it should only be used for emergencies, but all too often it's abused for trivial matters.

This viewer wrote," It is for emergencies only. Why is that so hard to understand? You do not call 911 because a restaurant got your order wrong and won't give you a refund. Call for house fires, serious auto accidents, heart attack, stroke ,etc."

On another topic, drivers who stay in the left hand lane of traffic and they don't move over. In many states, the left lane is for passing only.

Victoria wrote, "When are the police going to start enforcing this law? Until then, we will have drivers impeding traffic."

Edwin wrote that poor road conditions cause people to stay left." If you consider I-20 through Bossier City as an example, the right lane is so rough, I can understand why so many drivers use the left lane.

As always, thank you for your comments.

I'm James Smith.

State Police Supt. Col. Mike Edmonson needs to address this inexcusable behavior directly and restore the public's confidence. He should be fully transparent in his investigation into the matter and should invite an outside entity to look into the matter.

Be on the lookout for kids. They seem to dart out from everywhere. They are certainly not looking out for you; so please look out for them.
