LSUS Davis, Nelson named NAIA All-American

SHREVEPORT, LA -

A pair of players for the LSU Shreveport Pilots have been named to NAIA All-American teams for the 2013-14 basketball season.  Brandon Davis was named to the First Team while Will Nelson received Honorable Mention.

Brandon Davis is a 6'3" senior guard/forward from Pomona, CA.  Davis transferred to LSUS last year after playing for two years at San Jacinto Junior College (TX).  Davis was also named a First Team selection for 2012-13.  As might be expected, Davis ranked in this season's NAIA's top fifty in eight different categories, including: 2nd  in Defensive Rebounds per Game (8.333), 2nd in Total Rebounds per Game (12.667), 2nd in Total Rebounds (380), 3rd in Offensive Rebounds per Game (4.333), 27th in Points per Game (19.033), 34th in Total Scoring (571), 40th in Steals per Game (1.753), and 41st in Total Steals (52).  He also ranked 2nd nationally in "double-doubles" (points and steals per game).


Some highlights of Brandon's season included a highs of: 33 points versus Bacone College, 12 free-throws made versus Our Lady of the Lake University, and 20 rebounds versus both Langston University and Bacone College.

 

Will Nelson, a 6'6" forward from Port Allen, LA transferred to LSUS in Fall 2013 for his senior season after playing at Texas A.&M. Corpus Christi.  In gathering Honorable Mention status in his only season as a Pilot, Will also ranked high nationally in a number of categories, including:  7th in Offensive Rebounds per Game (3.400), 8th in Points per Game (22.400), 8th in Total Re-bounds per Game (9.667), 10th in Total Rebounds (290), 12th in Defensive Re-bounds per Game (6.267), 12th in Total Scoring (672) and 17th in Field Goal Percentage (0.537).

      
Highlights of Will's season included: a school-record 50 points versus Our Lady of the Lake University, school records of free-throw attempts (34) and free throws made (28) versus Our Lady of the Lake University, and 17 re-bounds versus Texas College

    The Parkway Panthers football team lost 35 seniors last year, and one of them was Brandon Harris, who is now the LSU quarterback. But the team had an historic season, making it to the state championship game, and did it all playing on the road throughout the entire playoffs. They want to make it back to the top again this year.More >>
