SULPHUR, LA (KPLC) -

A Sulphur family is grieving the loss of their 3-year-old son, who died following a dental procedure earlier this month.

Ja'Chyron West died Wednesday at a Lake Charles hospital after being in a coma for six days.

West's mother, Jasmine Williams says she was told by office staff that Ja'Chyron was being a "sleepy head," and that she needed to come to the dental chair to help wake him up.

Although she tried, Jasmine says she could not get him to respond.

Soon after, medics arrived and took Ja'Chyron to Lake Area Medical Center. Ja'Chyron never woke up.

KPLC's Haley Rush spoke to the dentist who performed the procedure. Dr. Cecilia Oubre referred KPLC to her attorney, who has not returned our call.

The Calcasieu Parish Coroner's Office has not yet released a cause of death for Ja'Chyron.

Dr. Oubre has a clean record with the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry. Her license to practice was issued in 2009.
