SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

Actor Carl Payne, Jr. is in town this weekend to attend a premiere and host an actor's workshop, and he says he won't be pulling any punches.

"Those of you who are serious about wanting to get into the business, you think you got what it takes to be an actor, I will quickly let you know if you do or don't. See all those people out there that go to your schools and say you can be whatever you want to be - you can't. No you can't you can't. No, you think you can sin, but you can't."

If you watched the 90s sitcom "Martin," you may remember Payne as "Cole." He also portrayed Theo Huxtable's best friend Cockroach on "The Cosby Show," and L.A. Reid in the recent "Crazy, Sexy, Cool, The TLC Story."

Payne will attend the premiere of "At Mamu's Feet" on Friday at the Shreveport Convention Center. Tickets are $15.

The drama "addresses the unnerving factual trends that more than 50% of marriages end in divorce, what Millender calls 'broken homes,' according to the movie's official website.

On Saturday at 6 p.m., he'll host an actor's workshop presented by Mentor Entertainment at the Hilton Hotel in Shreveport. The cost is $40.

The workshop is described as an opportunity for those interested in the industry and those wanting to become an actor or actress themselves to hear first-hand the life and trials of an actor.
